Why a Panorama Does Not Wrap Correctly
Fix a panorama that will not wrap by checking overlap, frame order, seam placement, equirectangular output, and metadata.
Separate a stitch seam from a viewer problem
Open the exported image as a flat equirectangular file and inspect its left and right edges side by side. If they do not continue naturally, the stitch has a boundary problem. If they match flat but jump in a viewer, check projection, dimensions, and spherical metadata.
The first and last source frames need enough shared detail. A panorama that ends with unrelated views cannot wrap cleanly just because the file is marked as 360.
- Visible duplicated feature at the join: inspect overlap and moving subjects.
- Hard color change at the join: match exposure and white balance.
- Viewer displays a flat strip: confirm the destination supports equirectangular input.
Revisit capture and frame order
Load the original frames in capture order and make sure the final frame overlaps the first. A skipped frame, reversed sequence, or accidental portrait rotation can make the end of the panorama impossible to align.
If you can reshoot, keep exposure, focus, and white balance fixed. Rotate around the camera's intended nodal point and include consistent overlap rather than relying on a narrow edge match.
Set the output for a spherical viewer
Export an equirectangular panorama from the stitcher, then verify its dimensions and orientation. Do not rotate the finished file in a general image app unless you understand how that changes the intended horizon and seam.
For uploads that support spherical metadata, preserve the metadata workflow recommended by the platform. Metadata labels the projection and viewing behavior; it does not repair an image whose edges do not match.
- Keep the horizon level before export.
- Use the destination's supported file format and size.
- Test the file in a second viewer to isolate platform-specific behavior.
Common mistakes and a final checklist
Do not add a duplicate first frame merely to force a loop. It can create a repeated subject and confuse alignment. Likewise, do not crop away one edge without checking whether the crop changes the spherical width.
Confirm the following before uploading:
- The first and last views overlap.
- The flat image edges continue in color and geometry.
- The output is equirectangular for a 360 viewer.
- Exposure, white balance, and horizon are consistent.
- Metadata and viewer behavior have been tested.
